Richard Somers Memorial Ceremony

September 4 @ 12:05 pm - 12:20 pm

Free

Join us for a small wreath-laying ceremony to remember Richard Somers, who was born in Somers Point in 1778 and killed along with the entire 12 man volunteers of the U.S. Navy ship Intrepid.  They died by the shores of Tripoli on September 4, 1804 during America’s first War against Jihad when Thomas Jefferson was President.    This is a preliminary ceremony.   There will be a major, community-wide observance at that same location on Sunday, September 10 at 1pm.    This will be followed by www.libertyandprosperity.org fundraising buffet at Gregory’s Restaurant and Bar, 900 Shore Road also in Somers Point.
